Carla Hayes

As a Creative Producer of theatre and events I utilise knowledge and experience gained from my background in community theatre and event management. Many moons ago I co-founded a Southampton based African and Caribbean theatre group named Gye Nyame, I drew on my Jamaican and Irish heritage to contribute cultural folk tales for the creation and performance of accessible theatre for wide ranging audiences. My professional interests and experience ranges from small and large scale indoor and outdoor events including theatre, performance, community shows, music events and processions.

I graduated from the University of Exeter in 2012 with a degree in Drama and am proud to call Exeter home. In the 2012 Cultural Olympiad I was Project Manager and Producer for Team Devon in Forkbeard Fantasy’s Artist’s Take the Lead project Battle For The Winds.  This involved a city centre procession with over 450 performers and a number of large scale outdoor based events and collaborative performances for the Weymouth Sailing Olympics opening celebrations. This year I have project managed a street based interactive performance using live action and pervasive media created by Slingshot and commissioned by Animated Exeter for their 2013 festival. I am presently an Associate Producer with Blind Ditch working on This Citys Centre, a multi stranded public participation project combining art, media and performance focusing on the relationships of the public and private spaces within Exeter City Centre. As a performer I am developing semi-autobiographical work utilising costume, props and projection. My aim as a Creative Producer is to collaborate with artists and groups on a local, national, and international scale.
